Randy Ermineskin Biography

As the former Chief for the Ermineskin Cree Nation and Grand Chief of Treaty Six, Randy Ermineskin will put politics aside to further concentrate on his doctoral studies. In his Masters in Leadership and Administration program he was challenged to always see the ‘bigger picture’ and to define what ‘servant leadership’ is. These two ideals add to his philosophy in always thinking ahead seven generations when planning.

Randy’s passion for sports led him to become an educator so he could inspire youth. Before committing to his education, he coached for over thirty years, continues to be a sports advocate and a sports builder for First Nations communities. As a teacher he taught grades one to twelve and continues to teach university courses. He has helped design and develop new courses that are relevant to the needs of our First Nations people today specifically in resurgence, reconciliation, Treaties and First Nations Governance. Randy consults, advises and is often asked to speak at national and international events for sport, education and First Nations governance.

Randy has been married to his wife Fran for thirty-eight years and together they encourage the need to stay focused in higher education. We cannot emphasis enough that education is important for our youth so that they can find their purpose in life so that they can come back to their communities. Taking the opportunity as President of Yellowhead Tribal College, Randy looks forward to helping and instilling this same philosophy to the staff and students who walk through those doors.
