IHSW 206

Alternative Methods of Healing

Course details

Utilizing a combination of lecture, experiential learning, and guided reflection, this course will introduce students to the concept of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Alternative ways for one to reach an optimum sense of health, balance, and wholeness has become a billion-dollar industry. Those working in the areas of health and wellness or have a desire to practice within this framework must expand their knowledge of the concept of helping as opposed to the concept of healing. Presentations and demonstrations by practitioners in the following areas are an integral part of the course: herbal medicine, traditional Chinese medicine/acupuncture, chiropractic care, and massage therapy (this is not an exhaustive list). This course provides information about these therapeutic modalities only, and does not qualify students to be practitioners of them.
