This position promotes and supports the personal growth, academic success and well-being of primarily, but not exclusively, students of Yellowhead Tribal College (YTC). YTC is an Indigenous-owned and operated post-secondary institution located in the Orange Hub of Edmonton’s Jasper Place area.
The specific duties for this position are:
To provide individual, short-term personal counselling for current students
To provide individual crisis counselling for current students
To provide academic success counselling for current students
To facilitate counselling workshops and seminars to groups of students
To participate in case conferences and work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional team
To provide consultation services to YTC employees regarding student-related issues
To prepare resources for students, and maintain accurate and confidential records
To engage in service, internally and externally, that benefits the department, YTC and the profession.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in counselling, psychology or equivalent from an accredited post-secondary institution, with supervised clinical experience at a graduate level, registered in appropriate professional field
- Two years of experience in providing counselling in a post secondary (or equivalent) setting
- Experience with group and/or workshop facilitation
- Demonstrated commitment to scholarly counselling
- Demonstrated commitment to service
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures
- Knowledge of current and historical issues affecting Indigenous peoples in Canada including trauma and trauma informed practice in the workplace
- Knowledge of traditional Indigenous health and healing practices
