Library Clerk (part-time)


Yellowhead Tribal College Library, located on Treaty 6 territory in Edmonton, Alberta, is looking to hire 2 part-time Library Clerks to assist in the provision of library services during afternoons, evenings, and weekends. These are part-time contract positions that will run from October 21, 2019 to April 30, 2020. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing in-person and telephone coverage of library service desk
  • Performing circulation functions such as checking out, checking in, and updating patron information
  • Shelving and organizing library materials according to the Library of Congress classification system
  • Assisting in the physical upkeep of library materials and space
  • Answering directional and basic technical questions
  • Other duties as required
The successful candidate must possess the following:
  • Positive attitude and sincere interest in helping people
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to use and troubleshoot computer software such as Microsoft Word and Google apps
  • Familiarity with Sirsi-Dynix Symphony ILS software is an asset
  • Knowledge of First Nations culture and the ability to speak and/or write an Indigenous language is an asset
  • Potential candidates must be 30 years of age or younger and self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit (grant requirement)
  • Completion of high school or high school equivalent
  • Some completion of post-secondary education preferred

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
