ABOUT YELLOWHEAD TRIBAL COLLEGE
Yellowhead Tribal College is an inclusive and open learning institution in the Treaty 6 territory. We provide accredited programs in a flexible, supportive academic environment nurtured by First Nations cultures and traditions. The college was established in 1986 by Yellowhead Tribal Council to meet the educational needs of its member nations (Alexander First Nation, Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, O'Chiese First Nation, and Sunchild First Nation). We offer academic upgrading, certificates, diplomas, and post-secondary courses and degrees to all adult learners in Alberta and across Canada.
JOB PURPOSE
The custodian is pivotal in the college environment, serving as an indispensable element in the institution's overall operational efficiency and maintenance. This significance emanates from their duty to uphold the cleanliness and appearance of the college facilities, ensuring that they mirror the organization's values and standards. The custodian is entrusted with a spectrum of cleaning and upkeep responsibilities encompassing various areas of the campus, including office spaces, classrooms, common areas, lunch rooms, kitchens, and waiting areas. By meticulously attending to these spaces, custodians contribute to cultivating a hospitable and conducive learning environment for students, faculty, and visitors.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Exemplary customer service, interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
- Time management skills
- Maintain a high level of professionalism in all interactions - friendly, professional, diplomatic, assertive
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy - must be able to work under pressure and multi-task, exemplary organization, filing research and data management
- Understanding of Indigenous Ways of Being, Knowing and Doing
- WHMIS and First Aid Certification
- Manual Dexterity can lift 50 lbs or more
- Reliable transportation to ensure consistent on-time arrival
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Basic internet navigation
Attendance and Punctuality Requirements:
- Must arrive at start time to prepare for duties
- Maintain consistent attendance record with minimal unplanned absences
- Ability to work assigned shifts in their entirety
- Required to clock in/out at designated times
- Must be available for occasional overtime during special events, deep cleaning projects or emergency calls
- Required to communicate directly with supervisor for any schedule changes
- Attendance and punctuality will be key factors in performance evaluations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduate
- Experience not required but an asset
