POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Department Head for Indigenous Health, A Health Instructor with a Master's of Nursing background is required to teach one 3-credit course for a Yellowhead Tribal College (YTC) in the city of Edmonton in the winter 2026 semester.  The name of this course is Introduction to Chronic, Infectious, and Contagious Diseases in Indigenous Communities.  The candidate will create a high-quality learning environment that is inclusive of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit adult students.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Review and revise the existing course outline and submit a course outline to the department head.
  2. Use a YTC email address, which will be used for correspondence with the department head and students.
  3. Deliver the course curriculum to the students for 3 hours weekly.
  4. Inform the department about any change to course delivery.
  5. Maintain weekly attendance records in the college’s database system.
  6. Submit periodic reports, written/and or oral, as requested by the department head.
  7. Provide feedback and evaluations on student performance and return the assignment promptly.
  8. Prepare, administer, and mark mid-term and final exams.
  9. Hold regular office hours for student consultations.
  10. Report final marks to the department head at the end of the semester, within 5 days of the final exam.
  11. Ensure adherence to YTC College policies and procedures.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong knowledge of subject matter and teaching methods.
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in the relevant fields.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate with students of diverse backgrounds effectively.
  • At least two years of previous teaching and training experience.
  • Available to teach during the week.
  • Ability to create and deliver lesson plans that engage and motivate students.
